Often, more time than expected is
needed to properly pack your belongings. Purchase the necessary packing
materials (such as boxes and tape) ahead of time, save your newspapers
to wrap fragile items, and begin packing items not often used. Number
your boxes as you seal them and keep a list of their contents.
-
Use strong and proper sized cartons
for each type of household item. Use BIGGER cartons for lighter items and
SMALLER cartons for heavier objects.
-
Try to use the same sized cartons
as much as possible to minimize the total cubic footage used, and to facilitate
checking and loading.
-
Brand-new items recently purchased
should be repacked from thier original cartons to save space.
-
Put books together in the same carton.
-
Pack heavy items, such as dishes,
etc., at the bottom of the carton, and wrap each one individually.
-
To cushion fragile items, wrap them
seperately with clothes, linens or newspapers.
-
Pack delicate items, such as crystal,
glass, bric-a-brac and figurines on top. As you get to the top of the carton,
put in your linen and clothes ... these act as cushions and save space
in the other cartons.
-
Pack dishes and records vertically,
never flat. Pack items tightly, filling every space if possible.
-
Close your carton with high quality,
fiber impregnated, wide plastic or paper tape. Loosely packed cartons that
are not properly closed invite problems.
-
Make a list of items packed in each
box and mark boxes in sequence for reference. Example 1 of 10, 2 of 10,
etc.
